The American College, Madurai has been recognized as a study centre for the Indira Gandhi National Open University from 1988, one of the oldest centres in South India.

The College gave space within the campus for the functioning of the Sub Regional Centre at Madurai till the centre was shifted to the present premises.

The American College Study Centre also offers facilities to conduct the Entrance Examination and Term end examination for the B.Ed., programmes which are not offered by this centre.

The Centre also has a tradition of hosting all IGNOU functions in the college campus.

The faculty of the College involved in IGNOU programmes and part time functionaries are always ready to help IGNOU students to clarify their doubts wither in person or through phone.

The Centre has a library for the exclusive use of IGNOU students, which has a collection of 1150 books, 88 computer Disks, 169 Audio Cassettes and 240 Video Cassettes.

The Centre also has facilities for teleconferencing. The Centre caters to the need of students enrolled in the programmes offered by IGNOU.

The Enrollment is remarkable in MCA, MBA and BCA. The practical programmes of MCA and BCA courses are held in the well equipped computer labs provided with IBM systems.

The science faculty in the past has helped the University authorities in fabricating laboratory exercises for the science programmes.
