JAPANESE
Certificate Course in JAPANESE (JPN 1611)
OBJECTIVES
The goal of the course is to acquire the Japanese language for communicative purposes both orally and in writing at an elementary level which includes Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Students are given a balanced course of speaking, listening, reading and writing throughout the course period as well as an introduction to Japanese culture which is also an essential part of language learning. Students are also expected to acquire proficiency in Japanese that will be good enough to pass level 4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
DURATION
Two hours of class room instruction for a period of 50days which would be 100 hours at the end of the course supported by a reasonable amount of tutorials and homework .
ELIGIBILITY
10 + 2 system of school certificate holders with a minimum of 45 percent marks in the aggregate in the final higher secondary examination or an equivalent qualification would be the minimum eligibility.
INTAKE
25-30 students will be an ideal class group, but since there is a high rate of attrition after understanding the regularity and seriousness needed for studies, forty students could be admitted.
