JAPANESE
Diploma Course IN JAPANESE (JPN 2611)
The Diploma course in Japanese will be offered to the students who have already attained an elementary knowledge of the language and should have passed certificate examination (a minimum of 100 hours of teaching) or an equivalent examination in Japanese language.
OBJECTIVES
THE COURSE AIMS AT :
1) Reinforcing, further strengthening and developing the language skills in listening, understanding, speaking, reading and writing to an intermediate level.
2) Giving the learner the ability to use the grammatical structure and essential vocabulary of a minimum of 300 words in addition to the earlier vocabulary acquired by the learner and shall include elementary idiomatic expressions.
3) Exposing the learner to the culture and civilization of Japan as an implicit part of the contents of the course. Students are also expected to acquire proficiency in Japanese that will be good enough to pass level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) .
DURATION
Two hours of class room instruction for a period of 75 days which would be 150 hours at the end of the course supported by a reasonable amount of tutorials and homework.
ELIGIBILITY
1) 10+2 system of school certificate holders with a minimum of 45% marks aggregate in the final higher secondary examination or an equivalent qualification.
2) Certificate in Japanese language (minimum of 100 hours of teaching) or an equivalent examination in Japanese language.
3) Students from other institution would be required to appear for an entrance examination and the minimum marks required for admission is 45%.
INTAKE
30 students.
ACTIVITY
The Dept. organizes lectures by inviting renowned personalities in the field of Japanese Language and area studies in order to introduce the students to the country, people and culture. Native speakers are also invited to the interactive session with the students to give more confidence in speaking. The Dept. encourages the students to exhibit their language skills through singing, etc. Students and the faculty participated in JAPAN HABBA-2006 held at Bangalore University.
