HISTORY
In 1980, under autonomy, the department
of ethical studies was started. This department was teaching Value Education to
all the final year students. The department of Religion and Philosophy was
started along with the value education in 1985. This is the only department in
the whole of Asia offering Value Education as a government approved programme.
Though from the beginning, the department
was multidisciplinary teaching Sociology, it was named only as
department of Religion and Philosophy. But later in order to emphasize and
recognize Sociology as a discipline and also to attract more students to join
this department, the department was renamed as Religion, Philosophy and
Sociology. By this way the department gains a unique status in
relation to other multidisciplinary departments.
