The Department of Social has been
involved in research and training in the area of Population Ageing for quite
some time. But the real recognition came when UGC on a national basis selected
the department as a nodal department for research, training and curriculum
development on Population Ageing, in March 2004. It granted a sum of Rs.20.85
lakh to the development in this regard, under its Innovative Programme. The two
–year Post Graduate Diploma in Population Ageing is thus specially sponsored by
UGC.
WHO CAN APPLY
Graduated sponsored by NGOs, Hospitals, Government, Care Centers, etc.
Graduate students already pursuing P.G. Courses in Social Work/Social Sciences.
FEES
No tuition fee is charged as per UGC requirement.
A sum of Rs.2,000/- alone is charged as special fee per annum.

TIMINGS
The course is taught after regular class
hours between 5.00PM and 7.00PM on three –week days. Fieldwork timings will be
flexibly arranged as per student’s convenience.

SPECIAL FEATURES AND EQUIPMENTS
UGC has taken special care to quip the
department with the state- of –art communication and media equipments necessary
for networking , visual documentation and advocacy. Students will gain hands-on
experience in Video Production and in the Use of Communication Technology
addressing Population Ageing.
FACULTY
The core team consists of highly
resourceful faculty trained in premier institutions specialized in Development
Management, Human Resource Management and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work.
They are supported by a resource pool and consortium of senior practioners from
Hospitals, Research Institutions, Development Organizations, Government
Agencies, N.G.Os and Care Centers. Support faculties are also drawn from the
departments of Philosophy, Sociology, Economics and Management Science of the
College.
LIBRARY
The Department has a reference library
with special collection of Social Work related books. It also subscribes for
more than 15 Journals. The students also can have access to the Daniel Poor
Memory Library, the main library of the campus, which is the oldest and the
largest library in the city. It has more than 2,00,000 books . The department
is also developing a specialized Library on Population Ageing supported by UGC.
